2009 Top Ten Tight End poised for a fall in 2010

Let’s see if I can stir up some memories before I make my pick.  Does the mention of Super Bowl winner, St Louis Rams, Detroit Lions, San Francisco 49ers, Chicago Bears, or the “Greatest Show on Turf” bring to mind anyone?

Ah yes, Mike Martz.  But he isn’t a tight end you say.  And you are correct.  But it is the Mike Martz affect that also leads me to Chicago Bears tight end, Greg Olsen.  Martz has been coaching for 17 years, including six as a head coach and four as an offensive coordinator.  During that time he has never produced a top ten tight end.  When I read reports and tweets that say Olsen will be more involved in the offense this year, I don’t get too excited.  Mike Martz uses his tight ends to block.

It’s not like Olsen has been a dynamo at the tight end position anyway.  Since coming into the NFL in 2007 he has ranked 19, 10, and 10.  Not bad, but nothing to get me excited when I hear Greg Olsen and Mike Martz will be working together.  Had Owen Daniels or Chris Cooley made it to the end of the 2009 season without injury, Olsen would not have been among the top ten tight ends.  Greg Olsen is poised for a fall from the ranks of the top ten fantasy football tight ends in 2010.
