Josh Freeman vs Sam Bradford

Which Quarterback Would I Pick To Lead My Dynasty Fantasy Football Team?

This is a real tough choice.  First of all, I started by looking at the two quarterbacks to see if I could pin point anything that really stood out about one over the other.  My mind went racing through all of the space I set aside in my brain for fantasy football player information.  I finally came to the conclusion that I needed to dig into some records.

I took a look to see how both did during the 2010 season.  I knew both had exceptional campaigns but since I don’t have either on my rosters this was the first time I had a chance to compare the two young quarterbacks.  In our Fanatic Fantasy Football leagues, Josh Freeman (325.44 fantasy points) finished as the eleventh best fantasy quarterback.  Not bad for his first full year at the helm.   Sam Bradford had a pretty good year too, finishing with 279.58 fantasy points, nineteenth among all quarterbacks.

That comparison didn’t shed much light because Josh Freeman actually had nine full games under his belt from the 2009 season and Sam Bradford sat out most of 2009 with a shoulder injury, while still attending Oklahoma University.  So I took the first nine games Freeman played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and compared them to Bradford’s first nine games with the St Louis Rams.  Sam out scored Josh by 11.28 points, total.  That’s not enough information when I’m planning to hand one of these guys the keys to my fantasy football Cadillac.

Since both quarterbacks are so young and have very little pro experience I took a look back at their high school and college days.  Both were impressive during their high school playing days. Freeman set state records in Missouri and Bradford did the same in Oklahoma.   Josh Freeman was rated higher by Rivals.com and Scout.com but he never won the Heisman Trophy, Sam Bradford did.

I’ve come to the conclusion that both quarterbacks are equal at this time.  The only way to choose one over the other is to consider the offensive line protecting them, the teams they play two times each in their conference, the wide receivers they throw to, and the possibility of injury.  After weighing the four factors, I would take Josh Freeman by the slimmest of margins.  If I had Sam Bradford as my quarterback, I would always worry about his shoulder being injured again.  I see Freeman as a more physical quarterback and I believe he will stay healthier throughout his years in the NFL.  I would be happy with either of these young quarterbacks on my fantasy football team.
